Lose the suspenders and gain some glute strength!

What the heck am I talking about? Have you ever noticed how as we become more sedentary we tend to flatten out our backside? It's true, this is why suspenders were invented (actually I did not fact check that, it's just a theory). However, our glutes (butt muscles) really do flatten out and we have a hard time keeping our pants up with suspenders or elastic waist pants.

Instead of scheduling a butt implant, let's try a more holistic approach to gaining glute strength and size. Did you know that trigger point dry needling can change the biomechanical properties of muscle? That's right, we can improve muscle tone, dynamic stiffness, and elasticity, which in turn increases muscle power and athletic performance.

If I haven't lost you yet, read on ....

Musculature such as the gluteus medius must eccentrically control motion of the pelvis while walking and/or during other functional activities where single limb support is required. Small changes in your gait (the way you walk) may lead to excessive loading of the gluteus medius musculature, which in turn may lead to the formation of myofascial trigger points. Even if you are not having pain, it doesn't mean that you are not creating dysfunction within the muscle.

Have you ever touched a spot on your and realized it was painful, but you never would have noticed had you not randomly found it?

Well, that is a latent trigger point, and that's what we are talking about today. A latent trigger point can cause the gluteus muscle to be weak and dysfunctional, leading to a perpetual cycle of gait imbalance and poor single leg stance

If latent trigger points are able to affect muscle function, then an individual with no symptoms, may have altered stability of the pelvis and the hip during loading response of the gait cycle. It has been shown that blood circulation within a trigger point is impaired and leads to local hypoxia and reduced transport of the metabolic products (CO2, H+, lactate), consequently leading to muscle fatigue, also increasing the risk of injury during exercise.

Dry needling leads to an increase in blood perfusion of the treated latent trigger point site and causes beneficial changes, such as improved tone, elasticity which increases muscle power. And isn't this what we want for our glutes? They are the largest muscle in our body and therefore we want them to be the strongest.

Let's have a glute party!

Schedule an appointment with us for trigger point dry needling and say goodbye to your flat behind! I know it's seems a little crazy, but it really does work.
