Physical Therapy for Bone Health
Osteoporosis and osteopenia care that keeps you moving, strong, and confident
$210 / session
A diagnosis of low bone density doesn’t mean you have to move less. In fact, the right kind of movement is one of the best things you can do for your bones. Our physical therapists help you build strength safely, recover after a fracture, ease pain, and lower your risk of a fall, with care designed around your body, your goals, and your life.
Who We Help
Physical therapy can help if you:
- Have been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis and want to know how to exercise safely
- Are recovering from a fracture of the spine, hip, wrist, or elsewhere
- Have back pain, or changes in your posture such as a rounded upper back
- Have had a fall, or feel unsteady on your feet
- Were told to avoid certain activities and aren’t sure what’s still safe
How We Treat Low Bone Density
Every plan begins with a thorough one-on-one evaluation. We look at your strength, posture, balance, endurance, movement patterns, and the activities that matter most to you. We’ll also review your fracture history and any bone density results you have. From there, your care may include:
- Progressive strength training. Bone responds to load. We use targeted, progressive resistance training, and impact work when it’s appropriate for you, to support bone density and build the muscle that protects your skeleton.
- Posture and spine strengthening. We strengthen the muscles that support an upright posture, which helps protect the spine and eases the strain that comes with a forward-rounded position.
- Balance and fall prevention. Many fractures, especially of the hip and wrist, happen during a fall. We train balance, reaction time, and leg strength so you feel steady on stairs, curbs, and uneven ground.
- Safe movement and body mechanics. We teach you how to bend, lift, carry, and twist in ways that protect your spine, and which everyday movements to modify, so you can stay active without second-guessing yourself.
- Fracture recovery. After a fracture, we guide you from early, gentle movement back to full strength and the activities you love.
- Pain relief. Gentle hands-on techniques and targeted exercise, always chosen with your bone health in mind, help ease pain and restore comfortable movement.
- Home safety. With in-home visits, we can see your real environment and help you make simple changes that lower your risk of a fall.
- Pelvic floor and bladder health. Urgency and leaks can lead to rushed trips to the bathroom, a common cause of falls. Our pelvic health specialist can help.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to exercise if I have osteoporosis?
For most people, yes, and it’s one of the most helpful things you can do. The key is the right exercises, done with good form and progressed gradually. That’s exactly what we start with in your evaluation.
Do I need a referral?
In Massachusetts, you can see a physical therapist directly without a referral. If you’d like, we’re happy to coordinate with your physician.
Do you accept insurance?
We’re intentionally out-of-network with all insurance, and we accept HSA and FSA. Without visit caps or diagnosis codes dictating your care, we can build your treatment around you as a whole person, not a billing code.
Where do sessions take place?
We see clients in our gym in Sandwich and The Pinehills, and we also offer in-home and virtual sessions.
