In case you missed it, here are a our top take-aways from Saturdays Foot Health Workshop.

#1 There is no science behind walking 10,000 steps per day. Let's instead aim for 6,000 steps and add Strength & Balance work!

#2 Your Plantar Fascia is a LIGAMENT. Ligaments are made of collagen, and as collagen declines with estrogen loss so does the strength of our ligaments. Keeping your foot strong is essential to prevent Plantar fasciitis.

#3 Orthotics are a tool, but not a long term solution. Tools exist for a reason, they can decrease pain and decrease load. But tools don't replace strength. You feet will adapt to what you ask of them. You don't need better support, you need better capacity. And that is trainable for any foot shape and any age.

#4 Spend more time with less support. When you are out walking lots of miles, wear whatever support is necessary to take quality steps. When you are inside or on soft surfaces (grass, sand, soft carpet, etc), go barefoot, or wear minimally supportive shoes. This does NOT mean, flip flops or ill-fitting slippers/shoes.

#5 Your Calf Muscle is the Heart of your lower body. Utilize your calf to push blood back up towards your heart and lungs. Skin color changes, swelling and lack of sensation in your feet are not normal.

#6 Keep those Piggies Moving Toe Spacers, Naboso Socks or Neuro balls, and compression socks are all great ways to make sure you feet are getting good feedback from the ground.

#7 The Single Best Exercise for Your Feet Yes, I said this about 10x on Saturday, but the true show stopper is the Big Toe Flexion with resistance band. Your Flexor Hallicus Longus (FHL) is critical to being able to walk well.
